I have had students with hearing impairments before, but this student is profound in her hearing loss. She has an FM system like the other students I have had with hearing impairments, but she has not received it yet. My saving grace at this point, is the fact that she came to us with a 1 on 1 aide. Her aide signs to her as I conduct the lesson. I need to work on interacting more with her throughout the course. I also am planning on taking some sign language courses this year at my local SELPA (special education resource center). This is something I am focusing on this year. I am also going to use the resources talked about in Chapter 15 for learning ASL. I was very excited to read about them during this past week.
I need to carve out time in my busy schedule to make a difference for her

Negatives: I struggled with one part that I re-did and had it right both times, but questioned myself: creating a rule in a rule. I thought I had done the wrong thing because it opened up a new rule under the other rule, but it was correct in the first place. I think I was just questioning myself and re checking, which isn’t a bad thing. I need to spend more time playing with font sizes and colors to make sure everything fits correctly. This is something that just takes time and practice. It took me a while to figure out how to copy rules from one actor to another. I don’t think I correctly figured it out.
